Panera Lobster Roll 2013

pinehurst | Jun 5, 201310:26 AM     16

I'll begin by saying that I like Panera.

I like the Power Breakfast egg bowl, their salads, their coffee.

I did not like their lobster roll. I was in Panera over the weekend, and in a moment of weakness (and a rewards discount), popped for their lobster roll.

The Good: No shredded meat. Claw, knuckle and tail meat present and plentiful.

The Bad: Lobster was presented on a huge, whole romaine leaf, in a strangely sweet brioche/challah-like roll. To cut the roll neatly in two, or to eat it without losing lobster shrapnel was almost impossible. I'm of the buttered-toasted roll camp, so the cold sweet brioche was the antithesis of what plays nicely with lobster.

The Ugly: The tarragon "mayo" was runny/drippy and meh. I understand letting the lobster be the star, but this was ridiculous.

Was it horrible? No. I've had worse. Was it good/worth the $17 pricetag (full retail...thank God I got the 4 bucks off). NO.

I'd give it a 4 on a scale of 1-10, just because of the decent amount of lobster.
