pane e vino in providence...grrr

It was my mom's birthday on Saturday and I wanted to take her out for a nice dinner. After searching the board for some Federal Hill suggestions, I made an 8pm reservation at Pane e Vino on Atwells Ave.

When we arrived at the restaurant it was quite crowded but the hostess told me our table would be ready in 15 minutes. 15 minutes passed and we were still waiting. Turns out, many others were waiting as well - some who had even earlier reservations than ours! I approached the hostess again and again was assured that we'd be seated in 15 minutes. Over an hour later i was told that it would still be another 20 minutes. By this time it was too late to get a reservation at another restaurant. The staff did nothing to try to appease its increasingly angry and hungry customers.

Was I a fool for continuing to believe the hostess? Probably, but at that point it was like having a bad hand with a lot of money already in the pot. If Pane e Vino had been honest about the wait time we could have done something about it. Instead, after waiting nearly an hour and a half, we eventually left to get a pizza at Fellini's on Wickenden Street. It was a great pie but not the special night I had invisioned. I will NOT be returning to Pane e Vino.
