Pane e Vino in BREA - Review

woo! | Jun 21, 200405:22 PM

So last night we decide to go out to an early dinner (5pm! ee gads!) with some friends, hoping to beat the Father's Day crowds... which we did. We heard that there is a Pane e Vino in Brea and called to ask about their "kid-friendliness" and they gave the thumbs up... so off we went!

Early enough so there wasn't an evening chill, so we decided to sit outside and the staff was VERY helpful in getting us situated, and they were extraordinarily friendly and nice to our 3 and 4 year old... who were pretty well behaved. On to the food.

Started with the standard Antipasto, which was very good. Excellent roasted peppers and artichoke hearts on the dish.

For the pasta course, my wife and I shared a Pappardelle with duck ragout... REALLY good. Pasta was just al dente, and the duck was perfect.

For entrees I had the veal chop... grilled to a perfect medium rare, and served with roasted potatoes and green beans sauteed in garlic. My wife had the sausage and peppers with a polenta cake... AWESOME... we love comfort food from all over, and sausage and peppers is such great Italian comfort food for us. Our pals had the capellini pomodoro - classic and good, and the chicken roasted in a clay pot w/garlic rosemary and lemon... I can't recall the Italian name... also very good.

For dessert we had creme caramel, berries w/zabaglione sauce, and poached pear in pastry crust... I LOVED the pear.

The kids each had a Pizza Margherita from the kids menu, and they were huge for $6! Easily could have shared one between the two kids. Really good pizza too. Dad had to eat some.

For wines we bought a bottle of Pinot Grigio from them (can't recall the name... was around $30, and quite nice), and opened a 2001 Turley Zinfandel (Tofanelli) that I brought. I think corkage was either $10 or $15... I can't remember. We also closed the meal with espresso and homemade limoncelli (sp?) which was great.

All in all a really great meal coupled with fantastic service at a pretty decent price... with wine, food, everything, it was just over $200 for 5 adults and 2 kids... not bad at all for the amount of stuff we ordered and the experience. Again service was very good and we will definitely be back soon.
