Mr Pancho in Van Nuys

Thanks to the recs below about this little hole-in-the-wall, I have finally found a new taqueria!

Mr. Pancho on Kester at Delano (just North of Oxnard) in Van Nuys. As described below, it is a market with a small kitchen in back.

I ordered four tacos: lengua, pastor, chorizo and asada.

These things are huge. The tortillas are filled with a lot of meat. Salsa, onions and cilantro on top. I decided to eat three and bring the asada home. I tasted the asada, which was okay. Not a lot of flavor, but I've found that tends to be the case for asada tacos in the valley. Why can't someone in the valley come up with a smokey, flavorful asada like King Taco?

But the asada aside, the rest of the tacos were very good. The lengua was very tender. The pastor was the larger chunks of pork with onions and had a nice smokey sauce. The chorizo could have a little more flavor, but it is still very good. The meat itself doesn't seem greasy, but there was plenty of grease on the plate. (The same was true of the pastor.)

I have to say that these were better than El Jerezano and La Casita. I'm definitely thrilled about the rec.

The only trick is that after getting your order, you are supposed to pay up front and then bring the ticket back to the kitchen. I didn't know that, so I wound up waiting for a while wondering why my order was being prepared.
