Anyone else been to Panchitas #3 on 22nd, in the Mission?
I went this past Saturday for lunch and it was truly wonderful... like a breath of fresh air.
The prices (at lunch) are practically those of the dingy and ubiquitous taquerias that seemingly own the neighborhood... but, the food and the atmosphere here are *infinite* steps above.
A very friendly couple owns the place.
Apparently the gentleman owner/chef is the youngest of three brothers who each own a Panchitas restaurant (#1, #2, & #3) in San Francisco. The other Panchitas are nothing AT ALL similar, so don't be confused.
According to the younger brother himself, who prepared our meals, he and his wife had their own vision to create a quality little Mexican bistro (if you will) unlike those of his brothers.
Now, I totally accept that part of the charm of dining in the Mission requires standing in line to order, huddling with the masses to eat, munching ravinously on hastilly amassed tacos and burritos with hot, savory juices dripping down your arm.
But, I assure you, it is quite a treat to indulge in equally, in not better, flavors... only, created with care, presented with style, and served gracefully in a classy little space.
Personally, I'm all for what Panchitas #3 is trying to do. I think, if you go, you will be too.
Check it out.
