My Panasonic Ice Cream Machine experience

Katie Nell | Aug 19, 2005 11:15 PM

Well, last night I decided to try out my new bargain Panasonic ice cream machine. I thought I would start out with a basic vanilla ice cream. I used Martha's Old-Fashioned Vanilla ice cream recipe, because I didn't have any vanilla beans for the other. It took about 4.5 hours even though the book said it would take about 2.5 hours for the 2 cup mixture. I then froze it overnight and tried it today. Mine, like Mr. Taster's batch, was VERY icy! It had good flavor, I think, but it was hard to get past the texture. It looked icy even when I took it out of the machine, so I'm not sure what went wrong. I also made the Cider Dumpling recipe from this month's Martha Stewart Living and they weren't so hot either! The recipe called for coarse salt for some reason, and I kept biting into a chunk of salt every once and awhile... not what I wanted in a dumpling! They were also a weird texture! So, in the end, I should have just went out to eat tonight, because the pasta I made for dinner wasn't so great either! Ah well... some nights are like that!
