I tried going E on Imperial Ave. from the 805 to see what was up Encanto way. I had hopes for a Roadside shop called "Tepi-Norte: El Rincon Chilango" but alas upon asking through the iron bars - only huaraches in the DF tradition.
All was not lost. I came upon Sammy's Panaderia in the same strip as Caribbean Taste, the Jamaican restaurant. This Bakery is one of San Diego's better palaces of pan. I really enjoyed that you are in complete view of the bakers working away. The Empanada de Calabaza - was one of the most generously filled ones I have had - with a pretty good crust, and its hard not to like a custard filled churro - anyway you look at it.
So if you are in the area.
