Dinner the other night at panaché (470, 6th ave, bet 11 and 12, 243-2222) was pretty good overall. This is a cheerful bistro serving flavorful food. Our waitress told us that some things were off the menu. Turned out half of the dishes on the menu were unavailable, but there was still plenty to choose from. Apps: Goat cheese with almonds and salad. Sausage, thick and garlicky, with lentils. Both were very good. Mains: I had couscous with merguez sausage and chicken and this was a treat. Both my companions had duck that was very tender and tasty, but the sweet potato puree with it was really sweet and unpleasant. Asimov, when he reviewed the place last year, ran into some overly sweet duck too, though he did like the restaurant in general. Staff are friendly, humorous. The place is simply decorated and it does feel Parisian. Apart from the sweet potato, not bad. Reasonably priced too.
