I'm very happy to report that my second meal at Pam Real Thai was much, much better than my first. My friend and I started out with the fried tofu (good but unremarkable) and the larb, which was great and even spicier this time. She wanted pad thai, which I never normally get since it's such a crapshoot, but I'm glad that she insisted. It reminded me why pad thai used to be one of my favorite things - hot, tangy, and just the tiniest bit sweet with big shrimp and lots of fresh herbs. We also had a green curry that was excellent, far superior to the penang curry I tried on my previous visit. In addition to asking for the food to be spicy, we also asked for it not to be sweet. I think this made a difference; in any case, the curry was volcanic. We wound up red-faced and sweaty, but happy.
I was really pleased overall with our experience, although I have learned what never to order: the sticky rice. I don't even want to know how many times it goes through the microwave to produce the patent leather-like thing that I've been served both times.
