Pain Perdu Ecstasy

About a year ago, at the restaurant Metisse, on the Upper Upper west Side (I think B'way and 105th) I had for dessert this version of indescribably delicious French toast, which also included apple slices on top. It was made with brioche, wasn't too sweet and was accompanied by vanilla and butterscotch sauces. It was an ecstatic moment, and I would love to find out if other Chowhounds have had similarly transporting experiences with French toast. Where?? When? Do tell! (Info on other great bread-based desserts would be also appreciated! Bread pudding, par example...)
