paco's tacos.

Hey, all. I've been lurking for awhile.

Today, while running errands with my friend the unnofficial mayor of Pilsen, she let me in on a taco find--Paco's Tacos Internacional, on Archer between 43rd and 44th.

It's a fairly large room, dominated by a grill and two short order cooks throwing down for serious taco eaters. Excellent decorations, including an Elvis calendar and a painting of two Zapatistas and communique #43. It was crowded--apparently things get a little insane on the weekends.

This is a no frills joint--tacos, tortas, and burritos only. Sodas, chicharron, and a few dulces for sale, but just about everyone was eating the tacos.

Eat the barbacoa--delicious, soft & chewy beefy goodness (unfortunately, no barbacoa de chivo).

Carne asada taco was also amazing, really really large for only $1.50--it wasn't grilled to order, but that's understandable, considering that the two cooks were working like machines just to keep up with all the tacos--the steak was still fresh/crisp/chewy/hot, and they might fry it up if you went in on an off hour.

The cashier (also the owner) gave us some chicharron for free, and was generally a super sweetheart in the midst of total lunch chaos. Two tacos had me super full for $3.00, and believe me, I like the meat.
