Oz Family Farm Halal Pasture Raised Heritage Turkey (Sonoma County)

Melanie Wong | Dec 20, 2014 05:24 PM

This morning at the Saturday Santa Rosa Original Farmers Market at Wells Fargo Center, I stopped by the Oz Family Farm booth. What had caught my eye was a plump bird labeled "Young Halal Turkey". Especially the halal slaughter part, having agonized virtually with "adrienne156" each year in her quest to find the right turkey, so I wanted to make a note of it here. This particular bird was a Standard Bronze weighing 11.4 pounds ($6.99/lb) and Narragansetts are also available now.

Oz has been raising rabbits at the home ranch in Geyserville, and recently added turkeys and geese. The fowl are pastured in the cooler, foggy clime of Valley Ford/Freestone. We joked about Tom Waits keeping them company.

It's still possible to reserve a bird for the holidays by calling 707-696-2636 or emailing OzOrders@sonic.net.
