For the ultimate neighborhood dive experience, check out the Oyster House Saloon on Moorpark St. in Studio City. Devoid of any snobbery, this dark, friendly "Cheers"-like seafood restaurant/bar is a great place to escape the blazzing San Fernando Valley sun and enjoy some good seafood and drinks.
Four of us shared fried calamari, a huge bowl of bouillabaisse, another huge bowl of steamed clams and crabcakes. All the seafood was fresh and the sauces/broths were good (we even made a mixture of the more-on-the-salty-side clam broth and the more-on-the-mellow-side bouillabaise broth which was perfect for mopping up w/ leftover bread!) We didn't order any (alcoholic) drinks, although the waiter/bartender let us try their homemade peach vodka on the house, so total was only $64 after tax and tip.
It was a blast, enjoying our lunch while we listened to 80's rock in the background and while we watched our waiter/bartender go around telling and laughing at his own jokes! Curious to see if any other hounds have been here and what your thoughts are.
