Better than described! Ambience wonderful--small room, gracious, trompe l'oeil curtains on walls; subtle lighting, tables not crowded together, tasteful, restrained, but very nice. Gracious service. Quiet! Operatic music in background, softly.
My husband, the reluctant eater-outer loved it, and wants to come back. Our friends were raving, and appointed me their restaurant picker for life. I gave Chowhounds full credit.
When I saw the $50 pre-fix menu I started figuring who I was coming back with, and soon. Maybe my Jan-Feb. mutual birthday celebrant girl friend.
But, prudence dictated that I stay with the $20 special pre-fix on Tuesday-Thursdays. (And, you do have to ask for that menu--it was not offered)
Five appetizer choices, Because the celery root/artichoke soup choice seduced three of us, I ordered an "extra" of the three cheese terrine for the table. Plate was scraped clean--subtle, first rate, beautifully presented. As for the soup--well, that was a first, and I sure wish I could make a soup like that. Very slightly lemony, and garnished with a sliver of preserved lemon, some kind of dark oil swirls on top. No cream included--but thick, rich tasting, redolent of fresh vegetables.
I chose the duck confit as an entree. Wish it had been sauced, but it did have a wonderful texture and flavor. Our friends were amazed at the size and quality of the filet choice at that price. Lovely vegetables on each plate--all beautifully composed.
Dessert consisted of a tiny scoop of berry and vanilla frozen yogurt, a small chocolate pastry, and a tasty vanilla cookie. That and La Columbe coffee ended the meal on a graceful note.
A truly satifying experience, and I have no clue how they can afford to do that. But, I will be back, and order from the $50 menu, which kinda blew my mind.
