overhyped "institutions" that fall short

michael | Jun 24, 2003 03:43 AM

I went to LA SUPER RICA in Santa Barbara today for the second time. This is one of those "institutions" that is supposed to be so great - it is not. I had four things; beef was among the worst, driest shoe leather I have ever tasted, the guacamole was average, the marinated pork was average, and the chicken was just OK. Believe it or not, I have had much tastier at Poquito Mas.

Since I moved here from New York about 8 years ago, I have consistently been disappointed with several LA/SOCAL "institutions"; they just do not live up to the hype. Among my disappointments: PINKS (so average), THE APPLE PAN (good, not great),JERRY'S DELI (just plain bad),GLADSTONE'S (horrible and overpriced)...

Any thoughts?
