Outer Banks Trip Report and Morehead City Area

Tennessee Jack | Aug 17, 200311:32 AM

I travel along the NC and SC Coast on business and I look for tasty inexpensive food. I am mostly by myself and refuse to wait if there is a line. Here are some observations:

Nags Head - ate at Scooey's BBQ had ribs - thought they would be smoked but were merely baked with lots of sauce slopped on them - not falling off the bone like good BBQ. Cole slaw and baked beans average. Verdict - will not go back.

Jockeys Ribs - had broiled crab and scallops. Very good. Ribs looked good as well. Prices were average 15.95-17.95. Verdict: a good place and would go back.

Morehead City area:

I always go to the Captains Table. They have all you can eat for $7.95?? for various items until 8:00 and then the menu is very reasonable - under $10.00. They have fresh fried fish and seafood - large portions. The place is not elegant but is where the locals go.

Rolands BBQ in Beaufort for lunch - BBQ chopped pork sandwich with slaw is $1.50. yes, $1.50!! quick in and out - take out only. As good as any chopped BBQ I have ever had.

I also go to Smithfield's for dinner if there are lines everywhere. You get fried chicken, BBQ pork, and 2 sides for around $6.00

In Swansboro - I enjoyed the Fish Trap. Not inexpensive but they do a good job.

I like fried oysters - Lightly fried though, and would appreciate info on any places from Delaware to Charleston that do this well.
