After several failed attempts to reserve at Ouest, a business colleague and I snagged a table there on Tuesday night. We were pleased. Service is attentive, friendly, unpretentious. The main room, where we were seated, was confortable, but still had much NYC energy. The wine list, though short, had a nice combinations of selections from a number of regions (organized by varietal) and was quite reasonably priced. My three a la carte courses all met expectations and more. An oyster pan roast with Yukon Gold potatoes and hen of the woods mushrooms was extraordinary and Valenti's take on shortribs superb -- tender and not over sauced (best I've had in NYC recently). My colleague ordered salmon,which was very well prepared if not as interesting. Desserts were also very good. I found myself hoping to return for all sorts of other interesting dishes that appeared on the menu -- roast chicken and garlic mashed potatoes, squab, soft shell crabs, etc., etc.
