so otto turned out to be a good call after all...

sorry about another otto post, but i had asked about a possible alternative to otto last week for dinner w/ some old friends, but everyone here convinced me to just go. i'm glad we ended up going there, altho we waited about 2 hours for a table. we really didnt mind tooo much since we were drinkin some wine sitting at the bar and catching up, but i'm guessing that's normal for a friday night. anyway when we finally did sit down, we started off w/ a five cheese plate, which was very good, but the only cheese i knew was the parmigiano reggiano. another tasted like a brie, and there was one that i really enjoyed, which reminded me of this iberico spanish cheese i get at trader joe's. i wish i knew what it was. anyway, we also had an arugula salad, before our margherita and goat cheese and asparagus pizzas. i just have to say that while the margherita pizza was good, i can go get a nice one at some of the other better pizzerias fresh out of the oven and in 5 minutes to boot. the goat cheese and asparagus pizza was especially memorable tho, and was a nice change and contrast to the margherita. i wouldnt mind trying some of the other pizzas. we also had the pasta alla norma but that was nothing to write home about. i did however enjoy most of the desserts we had. i got the affogato which was really good; a nice balance of the vanilla gelato and espresso. a friend had the delicious chocolate budino, which was very tiny but very rich. i wonder what kind of chocolate they use? it was heavenly i thought. another friend had the coconut granita type thing, which was ok, but not as decadent as the others. we also tried the olive oil gelato cuz i had heard so much about it, and i asked the waiter for a taster but he ended up giving us one on the house which i thought was nice. it was okay, kind of citrusy i thought and palate cleansing. id rather have the other stuff tho. btw, we had this really nice white wine called lugana most of the night (a couple of friends came later on and they had a bottle as well). nice and light for the upcoming warmer months. in all it was a very nice evening (i really like the atmosphere too), and i look forward to going back and trying out some more of the pizzas. thanks to everyone who said to just go and see!
