I've read some good reviews about the Swan pub in Carp lately, so I thought I'd give it a try. It was pretty good though I don't know why they received raves in The Citizen. For starters, we had a salmon tartare that was nicely presented and a lovely cognac pate that was served with fresh baguette, a homemade apple sauce and homemade whole grain mustard on the side. The apple/pate/mustard combination actually worked quite well. The main courses were not as good though. I had a nicely cooked sea bass (I thought this fish was a no-no?), served on a not-so-great baked chickpea salad. In fact, the chickpeas were pretty terrible. My husband had a Korean beef dish that was too salty. We finished with two homemade orange truffles that were excellent.
Would I go back? Yes, definitely. The starters were superior. I'd like to try the pub fare next time -- I think we might have better luck there. The service was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. It certainly is a big improvement over a few years ago when the food was really insipid.
