Orris open again for lunch

ThatPat | Dec 16, 200508:58 PM

Just thought I'd give a heads up. I was driving by intending to try the special at Kiriko which I thought I'd read about on the board. There was so much traffic that I was able to see that Orris was once again open at the lunch hour. Last year when they were open regularly for lunch I went fairly often. Starting next week the waiter told me they will be open 12-2 Mon-Thursday. Their lunch menu is pretty limited unlike last year--they basically have sandwiches and salads with a couple of soups and a special salad of the day. I did have a small bowl of some of the best tomato/eggplant soup I have ever tasted--actually it's up there with the best SOUP I've ever tasted, quite honestly--it was absolutely peerless! I tried the special salad, seared albacore-on arugula-which was rather small but sufficent with the soup. They did cook the albacore exactly to my taste (but then I was the only person there!) By itself, it was a rather skimpy salad I'd have to say. They also had a smoked chicken salad that looked good, and quite a long list of sandwiches. Anyway, it's not a smaller cheaper version of the dinner menu, sadly, but it's still a nice option if you're on Sawtelle.
