I was at the Burlington rib festival on the weekend and after sharing a half rack of ribs (Uncle Sams... I was tempted by the "judges award from 2010" sign but I wasn't a fan of the overly sugary sauce) we walked around the festival grounds and spotted a wood fired pizza oven on a trailer. I was intrigued so I went up to talk to the guy who was friendly. I was curious where they were from and I found out that they run a pizza spot in an Italian club in Windsor (not sure which Italian club it is as I forget the name and when I tried googling it turns out there is more than one club). Unfortunately they don't seem to have a web presence at this point. It would be nice to be able to follow where they are at on a twitter feed.
Anyway, even though I was at a rib fest, after walking around a bit more and already having had enough ribs (also had ribs earlier in the week at Memphis Fire BBQ) I decided to order their Oro pizza which was a white pizza with potato, zuchini and rosemary. It was very good pizza. I enjoyed it but I think I would have prefered it a little more cooked (the oven seemed hot but maybe it could have been a bit hotter for my liking). A whole pizza which was of a decent size was $10. Only took a few minutes to prepare.
Has anyone been to the one in Windsor? How does it work, do you have to be a member of the club to eat there? I would like to try the pizza again and will keep an eye out for them at other festival. They did mention they did some other festivals in Ontario.
If anyone has more info on them (the only thing on their card are two phone numbers under the names Remo Tortola and Lucio Franceshelli) ) please post here.
This is the 3rd new wood fired pizza truck/trailer I have seen this summer. One large truck at the Food Truck festival, another trailer at St. Catherines Busker Fest and now this one.
