Two New Yorkers, visiting New Orleans over the Thanksgiving holiday. I've been several times, but not since 2008. My partner has never been, and will love it. Advice in terms of paring down and focusing our food itinerary will help make it even better!

Staying in the Garden District.

Arriving Weds afternoon.

Dinner at Gabrielle's, or Clancy's? [Please advise/compare/contrast: Gabrielle's, Clancy's, Brigstons?]

In NYC we're spoiled; looking at photos online from these places, they sometimes look like catered/wedding food. I'm sure it's better than that, but what makes these places so well-reputed? Is there a difference between them? Which do you recommend?

Ideas for Thanksgiving Day? We don't care about turkey or being traditional.

Friday: Lunch at Parkway Tavern for Po'Boys? Dinner at Herbsaint. [I went to Cochon last time and I remember it being amazing. Should we just go back there? Or Peche? Or August, to go in a different direction? (I found it stuffy and unsatisfying last time.)]

Saturday: Brunch at Brennans -- a taste of old NOLA tradition. Also interested in Antoine's, Arnaud's, Galatoire's, Commander's Palace. But, fresh from reading the recent New York Times pan of NYC's Peter Luger's, I'm mindful re: are these places good, really, or is it about the preservation of an idea/institution? Which of the old stalwarts has food worth the experience?

Also, is there anywhere an interracial racial gay couple will feel unwelcome?

Dinner at Maypop. (I'm very interested in this place! Open to other suggestions, though.)

We love Vietnamese, but have been to Vietnam and have decent Viet food at home. What's worth going out of our way to experience here? Should we venture to Gretna?
