New Orleans foodie report

Thank you everyone for all your help and tips making this a memorable 10 year wedding anniversary. We will def be back

Tuesday we arrived mid morning after travelling since 2 am. We stayed at the Drury Inn hotel. We were quite happy with the location and the hospitality we received here. We were able to check in early and got upgraded to a 2 room suite which we loved the extra room. We then headed to Rousse's for water, wine, beer, spices.

We cracked open some wine,cheese & crackers and ate light as I was surprising my spouse with a NOSOC 2-4pm demo.

We had Michael as our chef and the whole experience was fun, informative and good eats. Chicken etouffee, crab & corn bisque and pralines with plenty of beer filled everyone at our table and then some. We purchased joe stuff, Kevin's and a cook book. My husband was so thrilled with the surprise.

We then ventured to Napoleon house for a Pimm's cup. Quite Devine and both thought this will be our summer drink to introduce others to.

Off we went to the Carasoul Bar . Very pretty and good for people watching but i get motion sickness easily and I sensed this was going to happen so been there saw it left.

Next Mr B's and we sat at the bar and shared BBQ shrimp. I had a grapefruit margarita and hubby a Sazarec. We enjoyed chatting with the bartender who was full of knowledge. He insisted we wear bibs for these shrimp. They were good but thought the sauce was missing something and didn't get wow'd like we thought we would. We walked and walked and went back to our hotel early night as travelled since 2am.
Set out around 9:30 and took the St Charles street car to the very end of the line. Loved seeing the gorgeous homes and architecture, trees. We got off at Washington street and headed to the Lafette Cemetery, So much history and interesting tombs many which were run down others well kept.

Next lunch at Commander's Palace. WOW sums it up we have never experienced anything like it and a highlight of our trip. The service was beyond impeccable from the moment we walked in the front door to leaving out the kitchen talking to the chef and him autographing our menu. ( we collect menus from all our vacations and they hang in our kitchen) we got a garden room that we had requested a CH suggestion. It was gorgeous,

I had chicken tuscan,white beans, truffle oil with gumbo soup. My husband the grilled oyster, blue cheese salad with turtle soup. We tried each others and loved it all. Even the garlic bread was so crispy and tasty.I enjoyed several martinis :)

We were pretty full but our waiter sold us on a desert with caramel and pralines. WOW again and we are not desert people. They also wrote on the plate in chocolate happy anniversary which was a special touch.

After rolling out of here we walked by Sandra Bullock and John Goodman's home and hooked up with some other CP patrons that were quite happy from their 25cent martinis. We all had good laughs and we end up at a new Wine tasting room that just opened on valentines day. Got to meet the owner from California and their dog that greets you.had a sparkling wine.
We walked back to St Charles and took the street car back to our hotel. We freshened up and head out to jazz in Washington Square Wednesdays. Great music, people all out enjoying themselves and the nice fresh air. We had a few grilled oysters and Ambita Strawberry beer . Mingled with a few people as everyone was so friendly and we are back at our hotel for another early night.
We set out and walked everywhere our feet would take us. Frencharket, FQ, bourbon. We had a bloody Mary at Molly's. We stopped at General Grocery and picked up a Muffalata sandwich to share. These are huge and easily shared by 2 people. They were soooo good. We paired it with a beer each we bought next door at the variety store and took our lunch El Fresco dining to the Mississippi River where many were doing the same. We stopped for Beignot's in take out line from Cafe du Monde. They were very hot at first and tasty but we didn't eat all three. We had met 2 ladies from Canada near us in line and we gave them good food drink recommendations and NOSC suggestion.
We went to El Gato Negro for a Margarita (my spouse had the carrot lime he loved and i had Cilantro lime) these have to be the best we have ever had) bought a few souvenirs at the market. My spouse had a alligator sausage on a stick. We went to FQF walked the grounds listened to music (Irma Thomas playing she was great) left the FQ walked into more stores and had an Ambita beer in Lafittes oldest bar. We had a Hurricane on the patio by the water fountain with the sun shining at Pat obrien's.
We hit Luke's at HH and we have to say they were about the best raw oysters we have ever had and 50cents. We had 6 of the fried oysters as well , c 1/2 price wine. They were very slow getting the oysters out so the manager came over and gave us a samplers platter of all types of pate, chutneys, mustards complimentary for our wait. We then headed back to our hotel grabbed few veggies and drinks at kickback, little Yahtzee in our room and called it a night.

Headed out to watch the FQF kick off parade at 10am. enjoyed the parade walked and walked picking up more souvenirs stopped at Market Place Cafe enjoyed a Bloody. Mary & hubby and I shared a Crawfish boil while listening to a band play. This was our appetizer as we went an hour or so later to Verti Merte for All That Jazz Po boy. There was only a few customers ahead of us waiting for their food but it does take awhile as one man show prepping. We took it to go and found a place few blocks over by French. Market.. Sat down and looked beside us and another couple in line in front of us at VM looked at us and started laughing as we picked the same spot to indulge in this out of this world experience. Oh my!!! Shrimp , mushrooms. Tomatoes, bacon and not sure what other meats covered in a sloppy goop that drips everywhere whats not to like? It was def out of this world . We shared one and both of us left a bite or two as so filling.

Off we went to see Dr John and what a zoo that was . We didn't stay too long as the crowds were too much for this show. We headed to NOSOC and picked up a box of pralines for the kids and then went to see Amanda Shaw. She was great and such talent in a young lady. Really enjoyed her. Had a blah tasting Jambalaya at the festival and my spouse a beef brisket. Neither dishes worth talking about,

My feet had blisters on the bottom from walking and walking so we went to Drago's to finish our bucket list of food and have the char grilled oysters. Ordered a dozen they were very good, too rich for me so hubby enjoyed a few of mine, I had a blue cheese bacon wedge salad, on the watery side and hubby ordered a shrimp pine nut dish . 1 wine 2 beers and $85 was not WOW'd but been there done it. The best was chatting with a nice couple from norther louisanna next to us that loved food too so we hit it off well.
I also have to mention The 2 ladies we met the day before at Cafe Du Monde were waiting for a table at Drago's we hugged and she said thanks so much for all your suggestions we did them all and were top notch thanks to Chowhound,

From here we headed back to our hotel with aching everything to start packing
Our foodie bucket list was all ticked off not bad for our first visit to NOLA and it will not be our last.
