New Orleans for beginners...

rstuart | Sep 18, 2017 04:54 PM

I have fallen down an internet rabbit hole trying to decide where I should eat on my upcoming trip to New Orleans (this includes the Chowhound rabbit hole!). We will be there from the evening of Saturday September 30th to around noon on Thursday October 5th.

Our airBnB is near Marais and Esplanade. We will largely be walking and taking public transit, although we will cab/Uber as needed.

We have reservations one night for Shaya, based on a trusted source! My travelling companion does not love high end dining and would happily eat Popeyes every day (which he can do here..)

Neither of us are crazy about seafood (except for shrimp: I do want to try a shrimp poboy). I really like desserts, and really want to try doborge cake (recommendations?). This is what I have on my ever increasing list of places to try:
-Bacchanal Fine Wine and Spirits
-Cafe du Monde (I do love fried dough, so this is a must try for me)
-Cake Cafe
-Dooky Chase
-Sucre (for dessert)
-District Sliders for donuts
-Elizabeth (for brunch)
-Surrey's Juice Bar (also for breakfast)
-The Joint
-Bao and Noodle (I have no idea where I got this one from)
- Is Commanders' Palace worth it? St Roch Market?

Thanks in advance!
