I got into a debate with a friend of mine who is an engineer and an ardent fan of Falk Copper. In the debate I referenced All-Clad because I thought the Tri-ply would suit his copper conductivity predilection and it is US made. Well, that sent him over the edge on a tirade on globalization and how most of those big companies are offshoring all or parts of their manufacturing to China, etc. etc.
So I spent some time researching and he is right to some degree. My Calphalon that I bought because I lived in Toledo, OH and associated it with local is now mostly Chinese. All-Clad is 10% (China, France & Italy) but even some of the European companies are doing the same. I ran across a scathing letter to Lagosinta over this. His beloved Falk brand appears to still be produced by the original family in a factory in Belgium so he was happy about that.
I, on the other hand, am a bit miffed about what I thought I knew of Calphalon. Not miffed enough to toss my set and run out and buy All-Clad but I will probably re-think things when the time comes to replace it.
I am curious about how the rest of the community feels about the origins of your wares and if offshoring is even a concern of yours.
