Original omakase for a sushi skeptic

Rebecka | May 24, 200502:07 AM

I love sushi, but while my boyfriend has adventurous, good taste in food, (From Southern Indian thalis to real Spanish chorizo to the stinkiest French cheeses he is overjoyed.), he thinks sushi is "a scam". Today he went to a sushi restaurant because he had to, and upon returning sheepishly admitted he liked a dish, because it was different than usual. I am thinking that now is the time to take him for sushi that will change his mind.

I'd like to find a great omakase (or a series of dishes, but would prefer omakase) where the originality of the food and the strength of flavors (he's not a fan of subtlety) are as good as the fish, as he is not turned on by fresh fish alone. Budget is somewhat of an issue, but $50-$60 pp is alright. We're in Pasadena, but will go anywhere in LA county. Suggestions?
