Original Caesar salad. Anchovies or not?

I had an Original Casar Salad in Tijuana in the 70's, at the point of origin at the Cardini hotel. It was a table side presentation.The garlic was cut in and rubbed in the bowl and then the dressing was olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire, Parmesan, lettuce and black pepper. Modern day recipes, calling themselves "authentic" used chopped garlic and anchovies and dijon mustard. what are your thoughts?
