When I was a child my Grandma, who spoke yiddish, slovak and hungarian, and lived there in varanno hungary which became Vranov Slovakia. She used to make a finely diced salad containing tomatoes, sweet peppers, red onion, cucumber, radish, vinegar, salt. It may optionally have had cheese. Is her "Chalamata or Shalamata salad" referring to a mispronunciation of Bulgarian Shopka Salata? Or does the title come from another dish?
