Hi (again) Foodlover-
Despite the limited hours of the former Yoshiz, now Origami Japanese Kitchen, I made it on Saturday to see what's up with this place. (The hours are 10:30 am or 11am - 3pm. no dinner, closed Sunday.) The place is small but clean, with maybe 7 tables, and some origami cranes hanging from the ceiling. Drinks are cans or bottles in a refrigerated case, so no refills. Everything on the menu is in the range of $6-9. I got the chicken cutlet curry. Nicely prepared and average in taste, but here were my gripes:
a) despite eating there, it came in a styrofoam container
b) couldn't specify how spicy I wanted the curry
c) the curry was all over the chicken and rice
Which brings me to an alternate point... Having tried Curry House, Hurry Curry and now Origami, my favorite preparation and presentation of cutlet curry definitely goes to Curry House. Hurry Curry's version comes with curry in a separate bowl, which just adds to clutter on the table and more work for me. However, Origami's version left everything swimming in curry sauce. BUT if you order at Curry House, you can choose among mild, medium or hot spiciness levels, AND the rice, cutlet and curry are on the same plate but you can determine with each bite how much curry you want because they're all side-by-side on the plate. Brilliant.
