A business associate, who is native Chinese, recently had dinner at Oriental Pearl (Clay Street, Chinatown) while on vacation in San Francisco. She pronounced it the best Chinese food she has had in the United States. She recommends the BBQ quail appetizer, seafood soup with fish maw, and PIPA TOFU (fried tofu with shrimp and mushroom wrapped inside).
If I recall correctly, Patricia Unterman also speaks highly of this place. However, there don't seem to be many Chowhound reports. Melanie Wong panned the dim sum, but you can't eat dim sum at dinner!
