Anyone been? I just stumbled in today -- it's tucked in a strip mall between a pet food place, martial arts/dance and some other unlikely characters -- in CA, this would be exactly the kind of location that would provide delicious, authentic food. But I'm wary.
I thought it was a grocery store (food market?), and it kind of is--they have lots of spices and packaged mixes that you don't find at King Soopers, but I think some (great looking) lemon grass was the only thing fresh. Teeny little frozen food area stocked with dumplings and other appetizerish things, a long row of different rices, dals, and non-wheat flours and......
...made to order food. I (sadly) had just eaten, so I didn't sample anything, but grabbed a take out menu with my (few) groceries. The menu ranges from appetizers like sweet red bean bao, perkedel kentang, krokets, and egg/shrimp rolls. The main menu touts gado gado, soto betawi, thai red and green curries, laksa lemak, some other curries an indonesian style fried noodles or rice. Yum, now I'm getting hungry.
I guess I should mention the ambiance is not exactly date-worthy (depending on your date, I guess)-- a couple formica tables perched between the to-go counter, the spice aisle, and the front register. Could be a good sign, could be a disaster.
So, has anyone been? What did you think? Are my spice-deprived taste buds in for delight or disappointment? Any specific recommendations?
Oh yeah, the details:
