For those who live around or find themselves in the Orient Heights section of East Boston, here is some food news:
Italian Express, which moved in June from the corner of Bennington and Saratoga further down Saratoga (route 145) towards Winthrop (not far past Zafferano's), is supposedly going to reopen Tuesday 10/18. I happened to run into one of the contractors in August doing work on the new space (which will now be more of a restaurant as opposed to a take-out place with some tables) and he said that the delay was because of permitting issues with the City. I attach the website.
The recently revamped Victory Pub, next to the old Italian Express site, will soon have a restaurant on the second floor called "Top of the Pub," which from the sound of it will serve lasagna, ravioli, meatball and other red-sauce type fare.
As for Carmen's Kitchen across from Caffe Italia II, this place seems to have been poised to open since early spring. It appears that it will be a deli/sandwich/pizza place in the mold of Milano's around the corner. I am not sure when they will open but was told the delay is due to the owner's problems with the law, whatever that means.
Cafe Orient Heights opened in the space formerly occupied by Italian Express. They serve Japanese and Korean fare, including non-raw fish sushi (excellent BBQ eel & avocado), appetizers like potstickers, soups, and a variety of dinners (chicken teriaki, marinated beef, etc) that come with rice and veggies. All modestly priced, and a great value.
If anyone has any additional information, I would love to hear it.
