How to order food 'to go' in Chinese?

vincentlocke | Jan 20, 201708:36 PM     7

When you walk into a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, how do you order a dish to go?

I know you can say 打包 after you've had a meal and you want to take the leftovers home

And when you call I suppose you can say "我想叫中餐外卖" if you want delivery? (right?)

But if I walk into a place and they ask me (几位?) what do I respond to them to say "Oh I just want to order the chicken to go" I feel like saying 我想叫... is weird right? Or am I overthinking it and I should just say 我想叫 一份 ... 帶走?

Also does one say 一份 or 一個 - I know 一份 is probably 'proper' but it's new york city chinatown so let me just say when I walk in a place dressed nice from work I get all these judgey stares >.>

Sorry if it's silly - I speak Chinese with my family all the time, but I have these huge gaps in everyday conversation skills because... I don't often walk into a place saying I want to order to go.

Any help would be great!
