opening oysters

A seafood-loving friend of mine told me that if you microwave oysters (or clams for that matter) for something like 30 seconds, you can pop them right open with no effort. I'm making Oysters Rockefeller so it doesn't matter if they cook a tiny bit. Has anyone ever heard of this, or tried it? I've done the old freezer trick before but that never worked for me.
