Is much open on Thanksgiving?

Bada Bing | Nov 23, 201104:53 AM

My 12-year-old son and I live outside Chicago, in Indiana. Finding now that our planned visitors for Thanksgiving cannot come, we're thinking of going into Chicago and visiting the Field Museum and whatever else we like that's open on Thanksgiving. In case we decide to do lunch and maybe even dinner out there, can we assume that much will be open for good food?

Note: we do NOT want to book space at some special holiday mean venue--we have all that at home--but we'd like to be able to get some distinctive Chicago chow. We come into and out of town from the south, so the northern suburbs are not ideal.

Is Chinatown pretty much open? How about the non-chain pizza places (Pizano's, Malnati's)? Other ideas?

p.s., I realize that the neatest small establishments are likely to be closed, but you never know. I have checked and found that Calumet Fisheries is closed, alas. We like stopping by there on our way home...
