It occurred to me last night that I've been lax in my quest to find the best onion rings in LA (well, that and finding the best lavender honey, palmier, almond croissant, any orange blossom-scented food, etc.), and I'd like to remedy that. The ones I've tried thus far (that chicken place next to the Bourgeois Pig, Fred62, Alcove, Swingers, Opus Bar & Grill, and some random diners) are generally merely passable. I don't like heavily battered fried things, and all of those (the ones at the Alcove in particular) are absolutely ENCASED in doughy batter. Really, all I want to do is go back to the Farmer's Diner in Barre, VT, and tuck into their thick-cut, lightly battered, well-seasoned onion rings (with a thick coffee shake and maybe some soup to accompany), but that's not really within driving distance. Any suggestions?
