so I thought we might be able to keep a thread like this alive...
Please post your input of recent latin food ordered in the area (port chester, white plains, etc.), what you ordered (tacos, empanadas, tortas, specials, etc), price, opinion, ambiance of restaurant, and anything else worth mentioning
I guess I'll start:
Aqui es santa fe - Empanadas (beef and chicken) from are fantastic. got a sack of 12 from them last night for $10 and the sauce they come with is fantastic as well. They are running an anniversary special for $2 off any breakfast/lunch/dinner order, but I couldn't justify cutting into any more of their revenue by using it. Instead, I promised I would be back during the week to get lunch there (most likely a santa fe salad w/grilled chicken) Place was pretty empty around 6 pm, but I hope the dinner crowd would start flowing after I had left. Very clean, welcoming and warm environment.
Aires de Colombia in WP had great empanadas as well. Very different than conventional empanadas, but great nonetheless. At $1/ea, a great value, although I didn't see it on their gringo menu. I think this takes the cake in my "best value kickoff to 2010". Clean, albeit LOUD restaurant
got 3 Tacos (carnitas, cecina and al pastor) from La Picara (sunshine deli) in WP on Lake Street. at $2.50/ea they were nothing to write home about. Full of meat? yes. Small? Yes. They each had a distinctly unique flavor but were dry and at one point had me coughing and reaching for water.
Also grabbed 3 tamales' ($1.75) from juarez grocery in Mamaroneck today (one of each flavor). The one I tried was good, but the filling (chicken) was a little short compared to the vastly overwhelming encasement. Can't really give a rating to the ambiance as it is a grocery store.
Alas, that is what I managed to visit this weekend. I still need to drop by:
Tortilleria Los Gemelos (PC) and Robertos Grill Cafe (WP) for their tacos, tortas, sopes and tostadas.
Nueva Puebla for their $5 1/2 roasted chicken as well as their tacos (esp. al pastor)
~Rinconcito Ecuatoriano for their empanadas
~Rinconcito Migueleño for their pupusas
