OMG - The Death of Bangkok!

Curt the Soi Hound | Apr 17, 201706:31 PM     3

The BMA, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, has, after decades, finally started to enforce the exiting laws banning street vending in Bangkok. This news has inspired rant after rant about how Bangkok will lose it appeal to tourists.

These rants are posted by the tourists that can't seem to find their way anywhere off the sidewalks of Silom or Sukhumvit. Most Thais and expats are welcoming the enforcement. We realize that this is not the death of great street food. It simply moves it away from the center of the foot paths.

Everyone knows I like local food, from small vendors. I don't feel threatened by this action in any way. The displaced vendors, that we know, have already found new, and in some cases, better places to set up.

Bottom line is that, in most cases, the vendors didn't attract the tourists; the tourists attracted the vendors. God forbid that the "street food aficionados" may just have to hunt down good grub, rather than have mediocre offerings hunt them down!
