Back from Opening Ceremony and several events. Fantastic experience. A much grander experience than what is captured by the television.
As to Olympic Cuisine, or more precisely the food that is served at the venues, it is a little puzzling. The stadiums offer hot dogs, chilli, and nachos. Some get crazy and also include bags of nuts.
The contrast between the very high prices for tickets on the one hand and the very low grade of food on the other is remarkable.
Our group all decided at a certain point that we just didn't want to eat another hot dog for the next five or six months. We actually got excited when we found a venue that had relish you didn't have to coax out of little packets.
Several areas, including Los Angeles, have done much better in recent years in offering a range of food at stadium events. Even bringing in the run of the mill fast food franchises would have been an enormous improvement.
So A +++ report on the Olympic Ceremony and Events, organization and security. But failing grade on Olympic Cuisine. You know how the crowds have gotten crazy trying to buy the Roots uniforms the US and Canadian athletes were given? Maybe consider selling the crowds the nice healthy foods the athletes are eating. Can't be feeding those great athletes nachos and hot dogs all day long.
