Miss Ollies, Oakland preliminary impressions

Miss Ollie's opened yesterday in Oakland int eh Swan Marketplace. Today I checked it out for lunch. This is a "preliminary" view because I went by myself, so only had one item.

See menu and write-up here:

It was hoppin' with a nice if small counter seating area and communal tables: very much like Cosecha next door. I sat at the counter and had the curry goat. It consisted of three chunks of goat with bone in, with a side of red beans and rice, and chtney, nad a boiled potato. The goat had been stewed in a light tomato with cinnamon, and other creole spices. It was falling-off-the-bone delicious; though unfortunately, the one large chunk of "meat" was actually almost all bone. Accompanied with the Jamaican chilli sauce made it even better (to me).

I saw someone eating what looked like the chickpeas, squash and bara bread, and thet looks good as well.

Service was very friendly, and it only took them about 5-10 minutes to get my dish served. I did overhear a staffer expressing concern about the number of tables who still had not gotten their food. I also overheard the cashier talking about how opening day had been a bit of a fiasco: overwhelmed with orders plus some computer system glitches. Well, that's ok --opening pains.

The one thing I'd suggest they do once they get things smoothed out is maybe add some snack or smaller (cheaper) items for easy take-out, since a lot of their clientele will be people wanting a quick easy-to-go lunch.

Check it out!
