I work in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, and I have always enjoyed eating lunch at Oliveto cafe. It was always a good deal for excellent food - I could get a pizza and soup for around fifteen dollars if I drank water, $20 with a glass of wine. (Not cheap, but still a good value.)
I was hugely disappointed to find out from a coworker today that not only have they have raised the prices of their cafe menu, but they've added a blanket $2 to everything on the menu. That means $8 for a small pizza (thin crust @ 9") $7 for a shallow plate of soup, and $6 for a small mixed greens salad. For lunch!!! (I'm not sure if they've changed the pricing in the main dining room.)
Oliveto has been mentioned in previous threads (specifically the "Most overrated Restaurant" postings) and I always felt like the quality of the food made up for it (especially considering that lunch used to be such a relative deal.) Needless to say, I am discouraged now that they have raised their already high cafe prices up to 33% (don't get me started on their wine prices, which are a blunt insult to their customers.)
I share this info by way of warning. What used to be a great opportunity to try some great food has now turned into a blatantly anti-customer grab for cash.
Does anybody else have an oppinion?
