Oliveto Cafe 2015 [Oakland]

Robert Lauriston | Jan 24, 201502:31 PM     1

We were looking for a table for five at 8:00 on Friday so ended up at Oliveto Cafe (the downstairs).

The menu is much longer than it used to be. First choice was cannelloni but they were out.

Pizza with guanciale and broccoli di ciccio was great, best pizza I've had in a while.

The Napoletana with anchovies, tomato, chili, Mozzarella cheese, and oregano on the the Community Grains whole-wheat crust was a really interesting combination of flavors. I think the wheat added some bitterness and aromatics. I preferred the crunch of the regular crust, though.

Everything else we ordered was good. Best polenta around with good pork spezzatino and ragú alla bolognese. Nice beet and arugula salad. Nice Brussels sprouts.
