Oh, Oleana...

Word on the street since Oleana opened has been great food, bad service. And I HATE that dinner last night again lived up to the reputation. Is this similar to others' experiences?

That said, I must still rave about the Egyptian (?) carrot puree pret a manger plate served with bread for $3. It's comes with a wonderful olive oil and toasted sesame seeds..mmm. And the fried mussel appetizer is truly amazing - the perfect texture with a wonderful sauce and fried peppers. The menu has changed and there is a new hummus appetizer that was delicious - served with house made crackers, olives, grape tomatoes and prosciutto (I think.) I tried the soft-shelled crab entree (especially after seeing all the talk about them being in season.) The crab was huge and meaty, very moist, although seemed a little bland. Served over grilled asparagus with a lemon-cream sauce over crab meat mashed potatoes. It was pretty tasty although I've enjoyed other Oleana meals more.

Friends and I have figured out the secret to this place: when you're craving carrot puree and fried mussels, just sit at the bar and have a beer so the poor service won't be such a bother.
