On my way to work there is a strip mall behind a strip mall that took me over a year to notice, and it contains a BBQ restaurant -- Ohio New Orleans BBQ.
As I am writing I am brushing the last bits of sauce onto bread to eat. It is the best BBQ I've had west of the Mississippi (I grew up in North Carolina). I only got one side with my lunch special -- $4.50 for a quarter chicken, beans and a soda, but it's also excellent. It was busy, as out of the way as it is, and has multiple pictures of celebs, including many hip hop acts and Angela Lansbury, thanking them for their food. The BBQ is a tomato-ey BBQ but with lots of vinegar. Not spicy. I've never had New Orleans or Ohio BBQ. It tastes like Lexington BBQ to me. The chicken flaked off the bone in juicy filaments. The woman who served was initially grumpy. The TV played cloying "One Life to Live" But she smiled and joked, and by the time I left I felt at home.
It's quite out of the way -- behind the Rite Aid near Lake and Altadena Dr in Altadena, but if you're in Pasadena and like BBQ, this beats the pants off anything else in the area that I've tried. Anyone else been? It doesn't appear to be a chain, and the Yellow Pages has only one listing for "Ohio New Orleans"
