The thread on worst office party food has be feeling very thankful for my department and our wonderful Christmas party and events throughout the year, so I wanted to start a thread to share positive experiences :)
We have our departmental party this afternoon, and I'm really looking forward to it. I work for a medical school at a large public university. Each department puts on their own party, and ours is known as one of the best. Every year, the chair and vice chairs use their bonus money to pay for the event. They rent a 100 year old country house that was left to the university and is now used for conferences and events, and provide heavy hors d'oeuvre and an open bar. The house is always impeccably decorated for the holidays, and the event is very festive. Having it on a Sunday afternoon helps keep things tame.
Later this week, my small working group will go out for lunch. There are only four of us, and my direct supervisor is taking us for lunch at the alumni club on campus. The food is respectable, but the real treat is having a leisurely meal in the middle of the week. In past years, we've spent half the day enjoying the meal.
