An ode to Eagle Provisions' wiener

Steve Miller | Mar 27, 2000 12:12 PM

Stopped by to find that the home made wieners were on sale for $1.99/lb.

Without doubt this is the best hot dog I have ever eaten - very meaty, sharply spiced, just enough fat to make a juicy spurt when you bite through the crunchy skin. I'm not much of a wiener eater, and neither is my girlfriend. But when she took a bite of this one she got this wild look in her eyes and I knew that from now on things would be different.

If you've never been to Eagle - corner of 17 or 18th and Fifth Ave in Brooklyn - you must go and discover the kielbasa - smoked and unsmoked, the smoked pork chops, the Canadian bacon, the head cheese. Also the 15-20 kinds of polish pickles, the many ryes.

Anybody tried the blood sausage? Scary looking.
