The Octopus Man (redux...)

Sigh...well last evening after work I finally went to the octopus man in flushing
(He’s on the westside of prince between 39th and 38th in a shed thing attached to the front of the #1 people’s seafood restaurant)
It was drizzling slightly, gray and not too cold. (I don’t know why, but days like this put me into a really romantic state of mind faster than proust can bang his spoon against his teacup).
ANYWAY...when I got there the octopus man was already busy grilling skewers of the legendary delicacy as well as some meatballs that looked like they were made of chicken. I ordered and he threw them on the grill. I watched him carefully as he lightly brushed them with oil all the while turning them and slashing them with a little knife and once brushed some of the red barbeque sauce on them too. That other chowhound was right too, so when he pointed at the course red chili powder, I too nodded yes. After about 5 minutes he picked mine up and handed it to me. It was absolutely delicious. My first time with octopus, and you never forget your first time. Sweet and fresh, very juicy, great grilled flavor and mildly spicy. They tasted of the deepest part of the deep blue sea. I basically scarfed them down. Pure heaven. I saw the little quails when he opened up the thing so I'm gonna try those next time. You can also get this stuff bagged to take home which I saw others doing. These would be awesome with some greens.
Anyway, I have to thank whoever did the original posting and brought this wonderful street-food find to my attention. So go, and eat in good health!
