I just wanted to thank the posters who recommended Oceanaire Seafood Room as a very good spot for a business dinner in downtown San Diego a few weeks back. Our party of 5 visited on Friday night, and the food and service were absolutely fantastic.
The special appetizers of the evening -- a crab preparation and the sashimi plate -- could have been small entrees at any other restaurant. The sashimi plate included a few of the usual suspects -- tuna and ahi -- but also a number of items that you don't often find prepared rare, including shrimp, scallop and a shrimp head that was, as our server suggested, very similar to eating softshell crab. The quality was impecccable (even if the texture of the raw shrimp was a little unnerving).
Entrees of rare ahi tuna, bluenose, and halibut cheeks made everyone in our party happy. Our server's recommendations of Key Lime Pie and cheesecake were right on the nose -- both were among the very best desserts that everyone at our table had ever tried.
My only quibble was with the wine list, which was quite expensive, with precious few whites available for under $70.
All in all, we all would highly recommend Oceanaire Seafood Room for a great business dinner spot. Thanks again, Chowhounds!
