Ocean Star Dim Sum in Monterey Park- underwhelmed

Yakitiyak | Mar 13, 2005 02:57 PM

I just tried Ocean Star in Monterey Park for dim sum. Since many people say it's the best in LA, I figure I would give it a try. I have to say the whole experience is underwhelming.

I tried the usual dishes, e.g. Har Gow, Siu Mai, Scallop dumplings, char Siu Bao, and Shrimp wrapped in Rice Noodle, and some green tea pastry.

Most of the dishes were lukewarm when they got to the table. So, if you pause a little and eat it, it would be cold by then. The only good thing about the place is the chrysanthemum tea.

I would say in my personal experience, NBC seafood down the street is still the best for me. Empress Pavilion in Chinatown is comparably good. New Concept is decent too, but slightly pricey.

I don't think I would eat at Ocean Star again.
