I had a great dim sum lunch yesterday at Ocean Seafood in Chinatown. The shiu mai was outstanding, as was a variation, a mushroom shiu mai.
The duck was pretty good, the spinach dumplings were okay. The shrimp dumplings were pretty good. I really liked the buns with barbecued pork inside. The fried turnip was good, but the fried noodle was better. The large eggrolls were too oily for my taste. I really liked the seaweed salad. The fried calamari was a big hit, too.
We arrived about 12:30, and the place was practically empty. By about 1:00 it was almost full. As we sat down, the women with their dim sum carts swarmed our table trying to hustle their dishes. It was fine, as we were able to fill the table with all kinds of stuff.
But they seem to be trying so hard to get you to take what they have. And they seem so disappointed if you dont take it. Are they paid by how much stuff they unload?
